International Law Commission 75th Anniversary Commemoration, Geneva
Dr Danae Azaria was an invited speaker at the commemorative event of the 75th anniversary of the International Law Commission (ILC) in Geneva on 24th May 2024, jointly hosted with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies. Dr Azaria’s talk concerned “State Silence and the International Law Commission” on a panel concerning the ILC’s authority. Part of her talk is based on her article published in the European Journal of International Law, “‘Codification by Interpretation’: The International Law Commission as an Interpreter of International Law”.
Dr Azaria had given an invited talk about the ILC’s reasoning, methodology and decision-making process at the UN official commemorative event for the ILC’s 70th anniversary (2018). The publication on which that talk was based (which can be accessed below) is “The Working Methods of the International Law Commission: Adherence to Methodology, Commentaries and Decision-Making”, in Seventy Years of the International Law Commission: Drawing a Balance for the Future.
