Education Project
Inspired by and based on the research under the ERC State Silence project, the ‘State Silence Education project’ was launched in 2021. Since then it has created a thriving community of learners about State Silence in international law composed of LLB, LLM and PhD students from UCL, NYU and Michigan Law Schools.
To date, it has run a series of seminars for students on State silence in international law (2021-2023). In 2022, Dr Azaria held a student workshop with a view to creating a student-led curriculum on State Silence (2022). The education project, including the student workshop, led to the creation of new education materials and topics on State Silence as part of the the LLB Public International Law course at UCL Laws (since 2023), and to the creation of a new LLM course on State Silence in International Law (2022). In 2024-2025, the first LLM course in the world was run at the University of Paris-Nanterre where Dr Azaria taught it as Visiting Professor (January-February 2025).
The project has made UCL a global focal point for innovative research-led education in the discipline of public international law.
